About The Spoon

The Spoon was born in Scotland in 1973. He studied Electronic Engineering at University, but didn't do as well as he might have done. The Spoon returned home and start work in the Civil Service where he wrote a couple of computer programs and decided that it seemed like an easy way to earn a living. He went back to Uni and did an IT conversion course - a Masters in Software Engineering - at which he did somewhat better than he had at his first degree on account of enjoying the subject matter and finding some of the lecturers quite an inspiration.
The Spoon then worked for four years followed by travelling for two. Whilst living in Vancouver, he was attuned to Reiki Level 1 and used it to his immoral advantage giving shoulder rubs to pretty girls at parties. On return to Scotland, The Spoon joined The Edinburgh Reiki Group where he learned to use his talents a little more responsibly and became a Reiki Master in September 2007.
In May 2006 The Spoon married his wonderful wife and in August that year they had a beautiful baby boy. Some more globe trotting followed, and The Spoon took a personal development course in May 2007 which he would recommend to anyone who wants to understand more about themselves. Some time after that crash course in philosophy, The Spoon had An Experience on the London Underground which was very intense. The Spoon came away from that experience under the misaprehension that he was Enlightened. The "Emergency" link above exists for anyone who is currently in that rather confusing state. After a period of meditation, reflection and arguments, The Spoon realised that he was very much still being controlled by his (overly) healthy ego, was still lustful, lazy, moody, argumentative and often gasping for a pint. This was not how The Spoon thought The Buddha behaved.
The Spoon then discovered an Internet Discussion Forum which contained excellent writing by a group of people all posting very honestly, with compassion and insight. After contributing articles exhibiting various levels of ego-centricity for 5 hours a day for a week (The Spoon was out of work at this time and not sleeping very well), he decided to create this website.
I AM THE SPOON is a reference to a line in the film The Matrix where a young boy tells Neo that The Truth is that there is no spoon. The spiritual experience that The Spoon went through contained much imagery from The Matrix, and many other films, books and music which dealt with the nature of Space, Time, God, Existence and beginning/end of the Universe. While The Matrix had the most visual impact on The Spoon's experience, it was The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy trilogy that was thought to have the most truth about it, and for a couple of hours The Spoon thought that the book's author Douglas Adams was the Divine Creator.
