The Significance of the Number 42
In The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Douglas Adams said that the number 42 was "The answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything". I've been seeing the number 42 all over the place in various synchronicities ever since I had an Adams-esque experience in the Underworld of the London Underground a couple of years ago. I feel like Jim Carey in the film The Number 23, only plus 19.I notice whenever the clock shows 11:42 or 15:42. And it's not just me, sometimes my wife asks me what the time is and it's 42 more often than not. The odds against that should be 60 to 1.
Something else I found while playing about with 42 is that if you look at where that is in the hour ( 42 / 60 = 0.7 ) and then translate that into where that is in the year ( 0.7 * 365 ) then you come out about as close as you can get to September 11 (9/11) (actually September 12 - close enough?) because 41 minutes would be September 6 and 43 minutes would be September 18.

42 is one of the Lost Numbers - 4 8 15 16 23 42.
Interestingly, if you were to start counting in Base 7 (and that's something you might very well want to do if you had ambitions to be a Time Lord), then 5 x 6 = 42. Talking of Time Lords, 42 is also the title of a Dr Who Episode.
Found a website that discusses further properties of the number 42 such as "In the Talmud it is written that the divine name of 42 letters is the greatest of the mysteries. These 42 letters contain the names of the 10 Sephiroth." and the fact that "The Chemical Element Molybdenum has an atomic number of 42".
I also came across a Jewish Scholar's website containing a LONG essay on the significance of the number forty two.
